By Coach Rob Ziegler
The 2016 version of the Park Tudor Middle School boys soccer team has begun its season and as the new coach I can say the group has shown a true commitment to the mission of improving, competing and representing the school well.
A talented group of 8th graders will return to lead the squad. Alex Azar is a tenacious central defender who enjoys challenging for the ball. His partners in central defense will include school newcomer Zayd Khan (all the way from Texas) who wins a lot of headers and helps with defensive free kick duties, as well as one of the team captains, Michael Ruiz, a no-nonsense defensive player.
Other 8th graders include newcomer Kaiyu Komatsu who is showing a lot of promise at right back, both in his steady defending and his quickness going forward to join the attack. Edgar Saratt is a captain capable of playing both in midfield and defense.
The 8th-grade contingent is rounded out by team captain Gavin Murphy, a talented dribbler with a good soccer brain in midfield, Andres de Dios, a cultured goal scorer, aggressive and composed goalkeeper Tate Surtani and quick forward Kyle Xu, one of the most positive influences a coach could hope for when it comes to team chemistry.
The 7th-grade part of the team includes a core group who won the Indianapolis Independent School League as 6th graders. Owen Camferdam is a brave and agile goalkeeper between the sticks, while Ahmed Athar has also shown an ability to play multiple positions in defense and midfield. Defender Beck Chandler enjoys running so much he is splitting time between soccer and Coach Nixon’s cross country team this fall.
Justin Gershman is a tough-tackling midfielder while Brody Holle is quick as an attacking player. Oscar Stuart brings versatility to the forward line, while Alex Parrish is very aggressive as both a midfielder and a defender. Will Morris defends and attacks well from his left back position.
Hard-working team captain Peter Dubie is an anchor in midfield, as is the highly-skilled and good natured Raiden Miyamoto, also a midfielder. Kaleb Strong-Jones is a fast forward who excels as a wide player, while Humza Raza is a natural goal scorer at forward for the Panthers.
Please come out and cheer on the Panthers as they compete for the school this fall.
